Otoplasty

The common name for ear surgeries (including reconstruction of ear as well as aesthetic surgeries of the ear) is otoplasty.

The ear reaches 80% of its development at the age of 6 years. Therefore, ear surgeries can be performed starting from 6. These procedures, which can be performed under general anesthesia in children, can be performed under local or general anesthesia in adults.

Prominent ear is a frequent deformity of humans and the surger is often performed for aesthetic purposes. Prominent ear deformity is referred to as excess cartilage of the ear and/or lack of folds of the upper 1/3 of the ear. Upper and lower 1/3 deformities of the ear can also be present. All these problems are curable.

In prominent ear deformity, we eliminate the problem by disharging of a part of the conchal cartilage, reducing the angulation and forming the antihelical fold. Many defined techniques can produce solutions to these problems. The procedure can be performed with closed (without scar-thread) otoplasty or open (with an incision behind the ear) techniques.

In closed surgery, the procedure is fast-practical, recovery is fast, but it may not be suitable for everyone. With open surgery, all ear problems can be solved, but there is a dressing interval afterward for 10 days.

In general, we follow our patients for 1 week or 2 weeks with a bandage after all ear surgeries.
